Suspect kills himself after shooting at cops during high-speed chase in Mansfield: police

A man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after he led police on a high-speed chase during which he fired multiple shots at officers, according to Mansfield police. No officers were injured.

The chase ended near the intersection of East Broad Street and Texas 360 in Mansfield on Monday afternoon.

The suspect crashed into another vehicle and then shot himself as officers approached him on foot, according to Mansfield police. Officers returned fire during the pursuit but not at the scene of the crash, police said.

A Fort Worth police helicopter and Texas state troopers also participated in the pursuit, according to scanner reports.

The car authorities were pursuing stopped shortly after 1 p.m. near the East Broad Street overpass at Highway 360, where the vehicle wrecked. The intersection was blocked while police and an ambulance responded.

The Mansfield Police Department said in a Facebook post that it was “handling a Critical Incident on the overpass at the intersection of the 3400 block of E Broad St and N SH 360.,” and officers have completely blocked the overpass.

All traffic is being diverted to the frontage roads, and drivers should seek seek alternate routes through the city.

The chase wove through several highways and roads including Interstate 35W, and at one point went into Burleson.
