High winds knock out power in Southern and Western Quebec
High winds downed hydro poles in the greater Montreal area and much of the southern part of the province knocking out power to more than 120,000 Hydro-Québec customers Friday night.
Just under 20,000 customers remained without power as of 1:16 p.m. Saturday.
The bulk of them — about 7,000 customers — are in the Laurentians, down from 14,000 in the region in the morning.
The other most affected areas included Laval (2,634 customers), Montreal (1,535), as well as the Lanaudière (3,580) and Outaouais (3,229) regions.
The Montérégie, Centre-du-Québec and Eastern Townships regions were each down to a few hundred affected customers as of the afternoon.
In a message on its website, Hydro-Québec thanked customers for their patience and said crews are doing "everything possible to restore power as quickly as possible."
