Thousands without power in eastern Ontario as high winds topple trees

High winds on Monday evening left thousands of people still without power throughout the Ottawa area Tuesday.

By 12:45 p.m., more than 4,300 Hydro One customers were without power in eastern Ontario.

Hydro Quebec's outage map shows 194 customers had no power in the Outaouais at 12:45 p.m.

Hydro Ottawa's outage map shows no outages as of 12:45 p.m.

That's compared to approximately 6,000 Hydro Ottawa customers across the city without power Monday evening.

Fire department spokesman Marc Messier said Monday night that trees and/or hydro wires were down on the following roads:

- 138 Pineridge Rd.

- 2211 Deschenes St.

- Greenbank Road, north of Baseline Road.

- Dozois Road, near Gough Road.

- Weatherwood Crescent.

- 1921 Prince of Wales Dr.

- 2048 Burnt Lands Rd.

- 5800 block of Rideau Valley Dr. N.

- 9300 block of Victoria St.

- 1057 River Rd.

- 4268 Ramsayville Rd.

A burn ban is currently in effect for the City of Ottawa because of the high winds, Messier said Tuesday morning.

That means nobody is allowed to "set or maintain any open fire" inside the city limits.
