A fatal collision has shut down a section of Nova Scotia's Highway 103.

RCMP Sgt. Al LeBlanc said police got the call around 3:20 p.m. Sunday after a two vehicle collision in Birchtown, near Shelburne.

According to LeBlanc, a car travelling west collided head-on with a car travelling east between exits 27 and 28. The lone occupants of both vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene.

RCMP expect Highway 103 will be closed in both directions for several hours while police continue their investigation.

A collision reconstructionist has been called to the scene.
