Highway 401 eastbound slowed near Lancaster, Ont. after tanker crash

A stretch of eastbound Highway 401 between Montreal and Cornwall remains down to one lane after a tanker-truck crash early Monday morning.

Ontario Provincial Police say the truck went into the median ditch at Exit 814 near Lancaster, Ont.

The lane will stay closed until Tuesday morning.

Vic Leroux, the fire chief for the Township of South Glengarry, said the truck contained heated liquid tar, which spilled into the ditch.

Leroux said the driver of the truck was injured and taken to a hospital in nearby Cornwall, where he is in stable condition.

The highway was briefly closed in both directions earlier in the day.

Lancaster is about 90 kilometres west of Montreal and 120 kilometres east of Ottawa.
