Highway 417 crash sends 4 to hospital, 1 in critical condition

Four people were taken to hospital, one in critical condition, after a vehicle rollover on Highway 417 westbound near Anderson Road.

Ottawa paramedics and Ontario Provincial Police responded at about 2:53 a.m. Monday to a single-vehicle crash on the highway, which is in Ottawa's rural southeast end.

When they arrived, paramedics found a Dodge Calibre deep in the ditch. Firefighters were called in to extricate five people due to extensive damage to the vehicle.

Once freed, paramedics treated four of vehicle's occupants including a 49-year-old man who suffered major head and hand trauma. He was taken to hospital in critical condition.

A 44-year-old woman suffered head and chest injuries, and she was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.

A 19-year-old man and seven-year-old girl suffered minor head injuries, and they were also taken to hospital. A 16-year-old girl was not injured.

Ontario Provincial Police is investigating.
