Hilmar woman dead after two-vehicle crash on Carpenter Road in Modesto. Police investigating

The Modesto Police Department is investigating a two-vehicle crash that left one woman dead and another driver injured Tuesday afternoon.

Around 2:30 p.m., officers responded to the Carpenter Road overpass near Ninth Street. Preliminary information indicates a white 2016 Nissan Rogue was traveling north in the left lane of Carpenter Road and a white 2017 Toyota Tacoma was traveling south on the road — also in the left lane —when the vehicles collided, according to a news release.

The driver of the Nissan, a Hilmar woman, was transported to an area hospital with major injuries which she later succumbed to. The driver of the Toyota had injuries that were not life-threatening.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, according to police. There is no indication that drugs or alcohol were factors.
