Hiroyuki Sanada Looks Stylish in Dior Men at the 2024 Emmys
Hiroyuki Sanada not only starred in Shōgun, but he served as one of the producers on the show. As such, he's poised for a big evening at the Emmys tonight, given that Shōgun looks to cement its history-making status, having already broken records for the most Emmys won by a single season of television. (The show won 14 awards at the Creative Arts Emmys, announced last weekend). At the ceremony this evening, Sanada is up for trophies in both the categories of Best Actor and Best Drama.
For the evening, Sanada opted for a classic navy tuxedo by Dior Men.
Shōgun "was a big chance to introduce our culture to the world and we tried to make [it] authentic as much as possible," Sanada previously told T&C. "That's a very important thing for us. Luckily, we could hire a Japanese crew who has the experience to make a historical drama, all experts on set for each department: wig, costume, props, everything."
Watching the show, he adds, "I hope people can feel our teamwork—East meets West collaboration." He says, "It's a hard time in the world now, but it's a good model case: different culture, different language, religious, working together, sharing everything, learning each other, respect each other and then working to the same goal, right? I hope people feel those kind of things, especially for now."
Sanada is set to return for a second season of Shōgun, reprising his role as Lord Toranaga, which is based on the real-life Tokugawa Ieyasu. "We don’t have any novels anymore, but it means for the writers a kind of freedom. We have history. We have real models, and we know what happened," he said.
