This is how historic Fort Worth Public Market will look when transformed into housing
It’s been nearly a century since the Fort Worth Public Market opened as a gathering spot for farmers markets and community events. It originally had space for 145 vendor stalls and 30 retail shops.
After sitting empty for almost 80 years, 1400 Henderson St. is about to be transformed into a senior-living community.
Construction will begin on June 20 with completion expected in late 2024 led by Wilks Development. The project will bring a five-story building for seniors near downtown and the Near Southside neighborhood.
The residential building will be named after original public market developer John J. Harden. It will go up next to the original site of the market, which is registered as a Texas Historic Landmark.
The transformed public market building is expected to include a fitness center, a co-working space, lounge and cafe, the Star-Telegram previously reported.
Renderings of the community also show potential for a pool and outdoor green space.
