'Hitler Door' Spotted During Referendum Vote Goes Viral

Some of the more extreme Brexit fans have had their anti-immigration views compared to those of a certain Nazi dictator.

So perhaps it’s no surprise that a door resembling Hitler has become one of the stars of last night’s referendum coverage.

TV viewer Darren Haines was intrigued to spot the fuhrer-esque fixture during BBC News’s live link to the count in Grangemouth, near Falkirk.

He promptly posted the image to his Twitter account, headed “There is a door in Falkirk that looks like Hitler”.

The image quickly went viral, and has so far been re-tweeted more than 5,500 times.

“Play School took a dark turn before the end,” commented one poster, while another added, “Hitler Door will be the biggest breakout hit since #LeftShark. We’ll call it the Mein Führdoor”.

One poster thought the Hitler comparison was incorrect, and the door actually bore more of a resemblance to SpongeBob SquarePants, however.

Someone else was just grateful for a chortle at such a tense time, writing "Thank you! That just cheered me up no end! I had no idea the referendum would make me laugh.”

The now infamous door swiftly picked up its own hashtag - #hitlerdoor, obviously - becoming something of a celebrity in its own right.

Danny Livingston devised an ‘remainometer’ on Twitter as a result…

…and The National journalist Andrew Learmonth snapped a selfie.

Safe to say this was a news angle none of us were expecting.
