Salt Lake City Bees centerfielder Eric Young Jr. wasn’t happy with his at bat to lead off the ninth inning against the Tacoma Rainiers on Sunday.
On the first pitch of the inning, Young hit a soft ground ball right at Rainiers first baseman Gordon Beckham, who started running at Young to tag him out.
Instead of just accepting the out and allowing Beckham to tag him — like one would usually do in that situation — Young wasn’t having it. He started backpedaling, running in reverse toward home plate and forcing Beckham to jog after him to make the tag.
The scene, albeit ridiculous, did provide the nearly 7,000 fans at the game with a good laugh on a rainy day in Washington.
The Bees — the Los Angeles Angels Triple-A Affiliate — held on to the one-run lead and beat the Rainiers 2-1.
