After 500+ episodes, Holby City veteran Hugh Quarshie is calling it a day as Ric Griffin.

First appearing in the medical soap back in October 2001 (an instalment titled 'Rogue Males' in case you were interested), Quarshie has appeared in over 500 episodes.

During his time in the Holby City Hospital, Ric has been part of many explosive storylines, including the twist where he was accused of manslaughter.

Following the news of his imminent departure, Quarshie commented: "I came very close to quitting acting entirely before being invited to join Holby City. I had felt unfulfilled and that I never quite fitted in. Holby City changed all that.

"The work became absorbing, colleagues became friends. I wouldn't have stayed so long if it hadn't been a great place to work, and leaving will be like leaving home – a place where there is warmth and a welcome, a place to which you can always return..."

Judging by that final line, it sounds like the actor is certainly open to coming back in the future, so don't grieve Ric just yet.
