James Nightingale has left Donna-Marie Quinn for dead in disturbing Hollyoaks scenes.

Friday's (January 24) first-look episode on E4 picked up with Juliet (Niamh Blackshaw) still planning to leave the village with her mum after learning that Donna-Marie (Lucy-Jo Hudson) was framed for Mac's murder by James and Marnie.

Juliet even managed to nick some money from Marnie's tea shop, while Romeo was distracted with customers.

James and Romeo (Owen Warner) ultimately caught onto their exit plans, so the lawyer rattles Donna-Marie's confidence by insisting she would only disappoint Juliet in the end.

"I'm not the first person you stitched up, am I?" Donna-Marie struck back. "First there was the guy who topped himself inside, and then the way you treated Harry.

"No surprise he ended up in a ditch… You say I'm the bad guy. I'm not the one who leaves a trail of dead bodies in my wake!"

After leaving James speechless, Donna-Marie was nonetheless in a vulnerable state — making her ripe for the pickings when she ran into the village's new drug dealer Jordan Price (Connor Calland).

Donna-Marie got some drugs off Jordan and secretly took them back to the Nightingale house. Meanwhile, James continued to pursue his renewed spark with old flame John Paul McQueen (James Sutton).

After being invited out for a drink by John Paul, James rushed home to freshen up for the date — where he stumbled on the horrifying sight of Donna-Marie overdosing on the drugs.

James once again showed his dark side when he risked letting her die in order to settle their vendetta once and for all.

"Maybe you're right," he admitted. "Maybe I do leave a trail of bodies in my wake."

Will someone else reach Donna-Marie in time?
