Hollyoaks spoilers for Thursday, March 26's first-look episode on E4 follow.

Hollyoaks vixen Mercedes McQueen has decided against taking revenge on Grace Black and James Nightingale over her shooting.

In last night's Devil's Dinner Party, Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) discovered that Grace (Tamara Wall) and James (Gregory Finnegan) were behind her shooting last year — but was also saved by Grace when she pushed her own brother Liam Donovan (Jude Monk McGowan) to his death.

Thursday's (March 26) first-look episode on E4 opened with Mercedes blinded with rage over the revelation, determined to make her shooters pay for the pain they'd caused her.

With her brother's death weighing on her conscience, Grace felt that the right thing to do was to simply hand herself into police to protect her family from any more harm.

"I've ruined everyone's lives. [Curtis] is better off without me," she explained to Courtney.

At the same time, James was having a Last Supper for his own family as he awaited the inevitable knock at the door from police to arrest him for his part in trying to kill Mercedes.

Yet, a brutally honest confrontation with estranged husband Sylver McQueen (David Tag) helped Mercy to realise that her reckless behaviour last year may have been partially responsible for the shooting too.

"No-one is innocent in all this. Not me, and certainly not you," Sylver insisted. "James and Grace have done things they shouldn't have, criminal things. But if you were taking responsibility in the first place, none of this would have happened!

"This all started when you ran over Grace and lied about it! Deep down inside, you know that's the truth."

With James and Grace down at the police station to confess, Mercedes arrived with a surprising offer that she wanted "to make this right".

"You're going to tell them that I killed Liam," she instructed Grace.

Mercedes laid out a plan to make the police believe that she'd acted in self-defence — and when questioned why she'd let Grace off the hook, she confessed to feeling guilt over the hit-and-run.

"I should have taken responsibility from the beginning," Mercedes admitted. "Instead, I just created this mess that just pulled everyone in, you two, Liam, poor Harry and Jesse… It's about time we put an end to all this."

Later, Mercedes revealed that the CPS bought her testimony and that she blamed Liam for shooting her rather Grace and James — their ordeal is "really over".

Hollyoaks airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm. Wednesdays through Fridays on E4 will feature classic episodes called Hollyoaks Favourites to compensate for the soap suspending filming in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
