Hollyoaks star Niamh Blackshaw says flashforward body bag scene wasn't a "shock" to the cast

From Digital Spy

Hollyoaks star Niamh Blackshaw has shared her reaction to the shock body bag scenes in the New Year flashforward episode.

At the end of last year, the soap aired a special episode that shifted back and forth between New Year's 2019 and New Year's Eve 2020, with one scene revealing that someone will be killed off in the future as we saw a body bag in front of The Hutch.

The flashforward aired as part of the soap's County Lines drug dealing storyline, and actress Niamh Blackshaw, who plays teen Juliet Quinn, has admitted that seeing the body bag wasn't a shock for the cast as they'd been warned to expect big consequences as the storyline unfolds.

"We kind of knew there was going to be consequences, because we were warned that we had to show there are consequences for what happened," Niamh told BANG Showbiz recently.

"So the body bag wasn't a shock, but I feel who is in it might be. Whoever it is who ends up there you've got a whole year to develop into that point. When we read it we were all like, 'That's a future issue. That's something to talk about in 10 months'."

Juliet was recently drawn into the plot herself when Sid Sumner's (Billy Price) cousin Jordan (Connor Calland) manipulated Juliet into becoming his first helper.

But while the dark plot is only set to intensify, Niamh admits she has a tried and tested method to detach herself from the emotional scenes after filming.

"There has been a lot of emotion the past few weeks, but I have a long drive home," she continued.

"My drive can be from 50 minutes to an hour-and-a-half, depending on traffic, and that's a good time to listen to music and chill out and not think about it.

"But also the people I work with on set, even when you're off a scene everything goes back to normal, everyone is laughing and joking and you can leave it there," she added.

"I've got used to switching in and out. Especially because it's five days in and I can chill on the weekend."

Of course, it's likely that Juliet herself will be safe, as the flashforward episode saw her admitting her feelings for (and sharing a kiss with) Peri Lomax, but one villager who could be a contender is Sid himself, who was suspiciously absent from the future scenes.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy about fears that Sid could be killed off, actor Billy Price didn't rule it out – but he did tease that there is still plenty of plot to explore that could shift opinions over the next few months.

"The audience should be worried," he admitted. "But there are so many other characters in the mix too – and things that are happening this year that haven't been shown yet – so there are so many different contenders.

"I think you should be worried about Sid, but it might change over the course of the year."

Hollyoaks airs weekdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look episodes on E4 at 7pm.
