Holy Cross takes gold in the OFSAA Boys’ ‘AA’ championship on the weekend

WALKERTON – Soccer – known in most places except North America as football – has been called “the beautiful game.”

Spectators were given dozens of reasons why, as they watched the best in senior boys’ soccer at the provincial championships in Walkerton on the weekend.

Sacred Heart High School hosted the Boys’ ‘AA’ OFSAA championship, June 2-4.

The gold medal winner was Holy Cross Catholic Academy, of Woodbridge.

Mother Teresa CSS of London took silver, while bronze went to École Secondaire Publique Louis-Riel of the Ottawa area and antique bronze went to St. Paul’s CHC of Niagara.

Weather was cool and a bit on the windy side, but the four fields used – two at the Bruce Power Soccer Fields plus the fields at Sacred Heart and Walkerton District Senior School – were in tip-top condition.

As for the level of play – incredible. Breathtaking. Beautiful.
