The Sûreté du Québec have found a body inside the residence that was engulfed by flames following an explosion in Saint-Elzéar, located about 260 kilometres northeast of Montreal in the Beauce region.
Both local firefighters and emergency services from neighbouring communities were called to the scene on du Palais Avenue around 6:45 p.m. Saturday. It took them about three hours to put out the blaze.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released, but police were searching for the homeowner who was reported missing on Saturday. Officers found the body on Sunday afternoon.
The three others who live there, a woman and two children, were not home at the time of the explosion.
The cause of the explosion is unknown and the brick house was completely destroyed.
An investigation is underway.
