Homicide detectives investigate after woman, 50, found dead in Mississauga

Homicide detectives from Peel Regional Police are investigating after the body of a woman was found in a Mississauga apartment unit on Sunday night.

The woman, of Mississauga, was 50 years old.

Const. Bally Saini, spokesperson for Peel Regional Police, said police received a call about the death at a residence on Ceremonial Drive near Hurontario Street at about 6:30 p.m.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the victim's body, she said. Her name has not been released.

"We are working on gathering all of the information as to what exactly transpired yesterday. Currently, it is considered an isolated incident," she said Monday. "Right now, we do not have any suspect information."

The death was initially considered suspicious and is now considered a homicide, she said.

Next of kin is being notified.

"It's very early in the investigation," she said.

Saini said an autopsy will be performed to determine cause and time of death. It is not known how long the woman has been dead.

Residents are urged by police to avoid the area as officers investigate.

Police are canvassing the apartment building for evidence, interviewing witnesses and combing the building for video surveillance footage.
