Homicide detectives seek person of interest in suspicious death

Edmonton police are looking to speak with a man about a suspicious death on Friday in west Edmonton.

James Joel Dunham, 40, was found dead in an apartment building near 153rd Street and 101st Avenue at around 5:30 a.m. Friday.

On Saturday, the Edmonton police issued a media release asking for the public's help finding Kendall Desjarlais, 32. Desjarlais is considered a person of interest.

"I want to be clear about that. He is just a person of interest, not a suspect at this time," spokesperson Scott Pattison said.

However, Pattison urged people to be careful if they see or know Desjarlais.

"If members of the public come across Mr. Desjarlais, they're asked not to approach him for their own safety," Pattison said. Instead, he advised people to call Edmonton police.

Pattison said Desjarlais is known to police and warrants are issued for his arrest, but not in connection to the suspicious death.

Police are looking for information on his activities at the time of Dunham's death, and any information on where he might currently be.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
