A homicide investigation is underway following the discovery of a body in an industrial area of Burnaby Thursday morning.

Burnaby RCMP say first responders were called to a gravel lot by a vacant building on Norland Avenue near Laurel Street — between Highway 1 and the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex — after a member of the public found the body of a man.

Police are working to identify the victim but say his injuries are consistent with foul play and there are early indications it was a targeted incident.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called to the scene.

RCMP are asking for anyone with dashcam video from Norland Avenue and Laurel Street during the 12 hours between  9 p.m. Wednesday and 9:45 a.m.Thursday to give them a call.
