One man is dead and another injured after a shooting late Wednesday in North Vancouver, which police believe to have been targeted.
The two victims were sitting in a vehicle around 11 p.m. in the lane of the 200 block of East 17th Street in the Central Lonsdale neighbourhood when they were shot.
Sgt. Frank Jang of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said the man who died is 43-year-old Alireza Serri.
The second man was treated in hospital for his injuries and released.
Jang said neither man lived at the duplex where the shooting occurred, and that it isn't known why the men were at that location.
IHIT said both victims were known to police and the shooting is believed to be targeted. Investigators say they're working to determine the motive.
"Ali is described by his family as a good person who had a very good heart. We will work tirelessly to find answers for them," Jang said in a written statement.
"This could have resulted in a double homicide and residents in the neighbourhood were put at risk as well. Finding the shooter and potentially others who were complicit in this crime will be the goal of our concerted effort."
IHIT is asking for dashcam video from any drivers who were travelling in the area of St. Andrews Avenue and East 17 Street, as well as the Second Narrow and Lions Gate bridges around 11 p.m. on Wednesday.
