Horry County schools close due to Hurricane Helene. Here’s what to expect from closure

Horry County Schools will have an e-learning Friday because of the impacts of Hurricane Helene.

The Grand Strand area is under a tropical storm warning as the hurricane that is making landfall in Florida will bring wind gusts in excess of 40 mph and heavy rain on Friday morning.

Due to safety concerns about transporting students on school buses, the district has made the decision to close schools and instead have an e-learning day for students and staff on Friday, according to schools spokesperson Lisa Bourcier by email.

Students who are unable to participate due to power outages, lack of a computer device or internet service, or other barriers will have the opportunity to complete assignments at a later date.

All extracurricular competitions (athletic and other extracurricular) scheduled for Friday will or have been rescheduled.
