Hostel Director Eli Roth Lists Tudor-Style L.A. Home

A 1920s era Tudor-style home in Los Angeles which is on the market for $3.5 million has an extremely creepy connection—although, to our knowledge, there are no ghosts or ghouls lurking about the three-bedroom, four-bathroom dwelling. The seller is Eli Roth, an actor, producer, and director best known for his work on horror films like the popular early aughts flicks Hostel and Hostel: Part II, the wacky Keanu Reeves thriller Knock Knock, and more.

Despite its owner's line of work, the stucco and wood house looks bright and airy in listing photos, and there are plenty of cozy touches like a fireplace and window seat in the living room. Arched doorways and detailed molding and wainscoting add character to the indoor space, while outside, the stone patio features multiple archways decorated with intricately designed tiling and Moroccan-style lanterns. From the patio, there is a stone walkway lined by a stone wall with a built-in bench on one side and topped with an arched trellis covered in vines. This leads down to another stone deck, and below that is yet another level of outdoor space with a pool. (The home is built on a steep hillside, making the terraced setup necessary.) Even farther down, there's a unique cabana-like sitting area with more pretty tile.

A private office, gym, home theater, and sauna complete the home's offerings. Mansion Global reports that Roth updated the residence substantially during his time there, and that he purchased it for $2.5 million in 2007. “It’s also a great house for entertaining,” he told the publication. “We had some legendary parties there back when that was allowed. It's a beautiful house and it was very good to me, and I hope those creative vibes pass on to whoever enjoys it next.”
