Hot chocolate, theatre and aviation: Calgary Entertainment this weekend
It may (still) be chilly outside, but there are plenty of arts and entertainment activities going on this weekend to keep you warm.
The Calgary Homestretch's Susan Holzman has a few of the events, festivals and shows happening around the city.
Music and theatre
The award winning Canadian band, Sultans of String is performing Friday and Saturday with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra at the Jack Singer Concert Hall this weekend.
Their sound is a mix of flamenco, jazz and Celtic music
Calgary also has a new arts space for music, theatre, and film.
It's called Theatre 1308 and you can find it at — fittingly enough — 1308 Edmonton Trail N.E.
The first event taking place at the new venue, which is owned and operated by the Calgary Inter-Mennonite Church, is called the Bright Side Festival.
The festival will include local band Hymm and Winnipeg stand up comic Matt Falk and runs from Feb. 23 to March 2.

Escape Film Festival
Perhaps you want to escape into a world of fantasy, away from the chilly weather the city has been experiencing.
The Escape Film Festival will feature some classic sci-fi and fantasy films on the big screen, including ET, the Lost Boys, Aliens, Willow and the Matrix — which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
The festival runs until Feb. 24 at the Globe Cinema

National Aviation Day
Saturday is National Aviation Day and you can celebrate it by going to the Hangar Flight Museum.
Feb. 23 marks the first powered flight in Canada, which happened in 1909 with the Silver Dart, and you can see a replica of that plane at the museum.
This is a family friendly event with lots of hands-on activities for kids.
It goes Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

YYC Hot Chocolate Festival
The YYC Hot Chocolate Festival wraps up on Feb. 28, so there's still time to sample some cocoa.
Participating restaurants and coffee shops across the city have created signature hot chocolates for the competition, some of them include butterscotch or cherry, and some have elaborate designs. One is called a Cookie Monster Hot chocolate and features cookie crumbled on the rim. It's also topped with whip cream and candy floss and has a skewer of cookie dough balls. Customers vote online for the best hot chocolate and partial proceeds go to Calgary Meals on Wheels.
