‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 Teaser: House Targaryen Continues to Fracture with War on the Horizon

After leaving fans on the edge of their seats with an airborne dragon fight amid a brewing war, “House of the Dragon” is gearing up to return for Season 2. During a panel at CCXP in Sao Paolo on Saturday, December 2, HBO announced that the “Game of Thrones” spin-off will return next summer. The news was accompanied by a teaser that shows House Targaryen continuing to fracture.

Ryan Condal serves as the sole showrunner on “House of the Dragon” Season 2 following the departure of his former partner Miguel Sapochnik (who remains an executive producer on the series). New cast members in Season 2 include Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Jamie Kenna as Ser Alfred Broome, Kieran Bew as Hugh, Tom Bennett as Ulf, Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark, and Vincent Regan as Ser Rickard Thorne.

Condal previously promised that Season 2 of “House of the Dragon” would feature a faster pace after a slow burning Season 1 that focused on establishing the various power centers in House Targaryen.

“We will get to the spectacle,” Condal said in 2022. “But you have to understand these people’s complexities before they’re thrown into war. Series 2 will hit the rhythms people came to expect from the middle run of ‘Game of Thrones,’ but it will have been earned, and viewers will feel the tragedies because we put the work in.”

While many of the biggest shows of 2022 will likely see a significant delay before returning due to the strikes that stopped Hollywood for most of 2023, “House of the Dragon” is one of the few shows returning on time. The “Game of Thrones” spin-off was unaffected by both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, as it was written before the writers strike and filmed with British actors whose Equity contracts were negotiated separately.

The success of “House of the Dragon” is an encouraging sign for fans of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” universe, as a variety of other spin-offs remain in various stages of development, including a Jon Snow sequel series starring Kit Harington and a prequel series adapted from George R.R. Martin’s “Tales of Dunk and Egg” novellas.

“House of the Dragon” Season 2 premieres on HBO in summer 2024. Check out the teaser below.
