Two people are dead after a house fire in a central Alberta town Sunday morning.

Around 4 a.m. on Sept. 4, Three Hills RCMP received a call of a home on fire with people trapped inside on School Road in the town of Trochu, Alta., located approximately 148 kilometres northeast of Calgary.

RCMP and Trochu Fire responded to the residence, but said although active rescue efforts were made, two people — a 68-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman — were found dead.

They are believed to be the only occupants of the home.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. Three Hills RCMP and the Trochu Fire Department continue to investigate.
