Singer and presenter HRVY is set to take to the dancefloor for the new series of Strictly.
The rumour mill had been buzzing about the 21-year-old Thank You singer being a possible addition to the line-up, and it was confirmed on Kiss Breakfast with Jordan & Perri on Friday.
HRVY - whose real name is Harvey Leigh Cantwell – said he was “thankful” to have been chosen for the hit BBC show and that he thought it would be “an amazing experience”.
“I think my mum is more excited that she will be able to see me every Saturday night now,” joked the star, who used to be a presenter on CBBC’s Friday Download and is followed by millions of people on social media.
Sharing the news online, he posted a dancing emoji and quipped: “Here we go, my hips don’t lie ;).”
HRVY was the 11th contestant to be confirmed for the new series of the programme, which returns this autumn.
Also taking part are comedian and actor Bill Bailey, presenter JJ Chalmers, Good Morning Britain presenter Ranvir Singh, Men Behaving Badly star Caroline Quentin, Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo, former professional American footballer Jason Bell, Max George of boy band The Wanted, EastEnders actress Maisie Smith and boxer Nicola Adams, who will dance in the show’s first same sex pairing.
Laing was injured just days before the series started in 2019 and was replaced by former Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher, who went on to win the competition.
The 2020 series of Strictly had been hanging in the balance amid the coronavirus pandemic but in June it was announced that it would be back, but with a shorter series, starting in October instead of September.
