Human remains found on Burke Mountain in Coquitlam, B.C.

Police tape is strung through the woods marking a path from the road near where Coast Meridian turns into Hazel Avenue in the Burke Mountain area of Coquitlam.

Coquitlam RCMP's major crimes section and the B.C. Coroners Service are investigating after human remains were discovered on Burke Mountain Friday night.

Police have not released many details, but say the remains were in a remote area on the mountain.

It's not known if foul play is a factor, but Coquitlam RCMP said it doesn't believe the public is at risk.

On Saturday, police tape was strung through the woods marking a path into the woods from the road, near where Coast Meridian Road turns into Hazel Avenue.

Investigators with the RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service could be seen carrying equipment up the marked path to reach the site, and hiking back with bags of evidence.
