Human remains found in burned-out Clam Harbour-area home

Human remains have been found in the ruins of a home on Nova Scotia's eastern shore following a fire Monday that RCMP now say may be suspicious.

Police said the remains were found Monday around 9:30 p.m. after fire tore through the house and two garages in the Clam Harbour area earlier in the day.

RCMP said in a news release Tuesday that investigators "feel the cause of the fire is suspicious." Police have not said how the blaze started.

They have not released the victim's identity, age or gender.

"As far as we know right now, it's the remains of one individual," said Cpl. Jennifer Clarke.

About a dozen fire trucks, as well as police and an ambulance, responded to the fire shortly before 10 a.m. The house and two garages were destroyed.

"We're asking for public assistance to bring us any information people might have out there about what happened," said Clarke.

"Keep in mind that no piece of information is too small so if anyone saw something they feel could be related, we would encourage them to give us a call."
