Humane Society needs more foster homes for animals in need
The PEI Humane Society is hoping to recruit more volunteers for its foster care program.
Development coordinator Jennifer Harkness said people can take pets in their homes for anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.
The goal of fostering is to help animals who may need a bit of socializing or need special care because of health issues.
Harkness said this time of year, the demand for fostering cats is especially high.
"There might be months that go by in the winter time that we don't have a great need for foster care and people are like 'oh you haven't called me in a long time.' Well it's because kitten season isn't here kind of thing or perhaps that foster parent isn't fitting the needs of the foster animals that we have, but definitely this time right now it's a late kitten season and the foster care, we definitely need more foster parents at this time."
Harkness says while fostering an animal is a big commitment, it's not long term.
She encourages responsible pet lovers to sign up, even if they're only visiting the Island for the summer.
