Hunter Schafer remembers telling her pastor parents about her anal sex scene on “Euphoria”
"Their congregation, who are just little old nice white Christian people from the south, are going to watch this TV show and see me getting f---ed."
Talking to parents about sex is awkward, but imagine what was like for Euphoria star Hunter Schafer, knowing her parents watch all her scenes. What makes it even more awkward? Her parents are pastors.
In an appearance on Wednesday's episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, Schafer recalls the time she had to tell her pastor parents about her scenes in the Euphoria series premiere—including Jules having rough anal sex with Cal (Eric Dane), and then later self-harming at the party in front of Nate (Jacob Elordi). And while she said her parents' church is "on the chiller side of Christianity," she still feels "bad."

"There's this whole pastor's daughter trope. And it gets kind of tough," she said. "When I had to tell my parents, 'In the first episode, I'm having anal sex with a 45-year-old and cutting myself in the arm,' my first thought is like, okay, they have to tell their congregation that their kid's going to be on TV, and then their congregation, who are just little old nice white Christian people from the south, are going to watch this TV show and see me getting f---ed. I still do feel bad because that's something they still have to deal with."
Schafer is returning along with the rest of the cast for Euphoria season 3 in 2025, but admitted they "have no f---ing idea what's going on" in terms of what to expect after a three-year hiatus. "You can ask literally all of the cast," Schafer said. "The real tea is that a lot has happened."

The 25-year-old teared up while referencing costar Angus Cloud's death by accidental overdose in 2023. "If we do go back, that’s going to be tough," she said. "I think there’s a world in which we can channel that into making it a beautiful season 3 — if it is supposed to happen. I think that s--- really threw everyone for a loop."
A lot has also happened in Schafer's personal life since filming season 2. She and costar Dominic Fike began a relationship that has since ended because she found out he was cheating on her while going through his phone. "I got cheated on for the first time," Schafer said, explaining that she had "a gut" feeling which is why she went through Fike’s phone. "I'm not proud of [that]."

But she added that they are still on good terms now. "It was a mutually agreed upon thing," Schafer said. "It was one of the cleaner breakups I’ve had. We both recognized that this is not working and we can’t do this. We've got to go our own separate ways. It was so, so hard because we really loved each other. He is a really special person and I love his soul."
Very little has been revealed about the next chapter of Euphoria, though creator Sam Levinson recently described the third season as a "film noir." He added that through Rue, the recovering teen addict played by Zendaya, he plans to "explore what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world. The second season ended in Feb. 2022 with Rue hitting rock bottom as she reconciled the consequences of her relapse.
