Hunter shot near Okotoks, airlifted to hospital

RCMP say a hunter was shot north of Okotoks on Tuesday.

According to a release, units from Turner Valley, High River and Okotoks responded to reports that a man was shot around 9 a.m.

The incident happened near 80th Street E. by the banks of the Bow River, about 13 kilometres north of Okotoks.

RCMP say the victim suffered a serious injury from the gunshot and was airlifted to hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.

A 62-year-old from Calgary was taken into custody at the scene but has since been released.

RCMP say the man is facing a charge of careless use of a firearm and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 5, 2021.

His name has not been released at this time because a formal charge has not been sworn, police said.
