2 lanes of Hwy 417 westbound reopened at Moodie after crash

Two westbound lanes of Highway 417 have reopened at the Moodie Drive exit as emergency crews deal with a crash that sent two men to hospital, one of them in critical condition.

Flames broke out after the crash between a tractor trailer and a sedan on Friday morning at about 8 a.m. The fire has since been extinguished.

The force of the crash threw the driver of the tractor trailer, a 64-year-old man, from the cab. He was taken the The Ottawa Hospital's Civic campus trauma unit in critical condition with head, abdomen and chest injuries, paramedics said.

The 57-year-old man driving the sedan was taken to the Queensway-Carleton Hospital in stable condition with minor injuries.

Traffic is backed up on Highway 417 westbound east of Moodie. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating.
