Since I’m the type of person who lives for a subtle yet impactful makeup look, I’ve been drawn to the ease and pigmented glory of Bite Beauty products for quite some time. But even as someone with perpetually dry lips in winter, who's been around the block a few times when it comes to lip care, it took me a while to discover that the right balm to soothe my peeling lips was sitting under my nose this whole time: Bite’s Agave+ Daytime Vegan Lip Balm.
Fellow Bite Beauty fans (and beauty lovers in general) may already be familiar with the brand’s original cult favorite Agave Lip Balm and Lip Mask, which is one of those products that's reached "holy grail" status on Reddit beauty boards, won over beauty editors, and earned a devoted following among die-hard Sephora shoppers. Bite Beauty caused a stir when it discontinued the mask, but launched a new formulation last April that keeps its original all-star ingredient agave nectar in the lineup, and repackages it in a little twist-up tube. Oh, and did I mention that the new formula is all vegan (meaning it doesn't use animal byproducts like lanolin)?
Fans of the original might fight me on this, but let me set the record straight: This stuff is the best. I love the way the lip balm sinks into my lips and glides over them like butter (which might have to do with the actual cocoa butter in it). It's absolutely one of the thiccest products I have in my collection, but its globby consistency is also one of my favorite aspects about it. My coworkers recognize it as my favorite desk balm for touch-ups, and it's truly been a lifesaver this winter for keeping my lips from cracking and peeling. Every time I use it, I feel like I’m encapsulating my lips in an impenetrable force field against winter wind chill and freezing temperatures.
Aside from its supremely hydrating and protective formula, the Agave+ balm also has a barely detectable scent, unlike many of the overly fruity or sweet-smelling lip treatments I’ve worn in the past. Worn alone, it gives my lips a nourished, semiglossy look, without any lingering stickiness or greasiness, and does a great job of prepping my lips for makeup—no exfoliators necessary.
And a little goes a long way. I never need to apply the balm more than twice to keep my lips extra soft throughout the day, since it usually keeps my lips moisturized for an entire work day. I like to consider the Agave+ Lip Balm not just an ordinary lip product, but also a full-on dry skin Transformer—all it takes is a couple of swipes of product and a few seconds of body heat to go from scary to supple.
