As the village of Hythe prepares for its transition into the County of Grande Prairie, Hythe mayor Brian Peterson is waiting eagerly to hear of the results from the province.
The Government of Alberta must make the dissolution official in parliament.
“We expect that it could be July 1, but we don't know yet,” said Peterson, “and we are told that the government will be voting on that package which will include the date (of dissolution), we're told that that'll happen today (Tuesday).”
Tax notices for the Village of Hythe have been sent out and can be paid to the village as usual.
Peterson said he believes that the transition should go smoothly for residents as they pay their taxes to Hythe just as they have in the past.
The county and Hythe will do the rest of the work during the transition, as bank accounts are switched from the village to the county.
“Most of our projects are put on hold until the county takes over and they can make their own decisions,” said Peterson, “I don't think it's fair for us to make decisions.”
Any decisions the village must make, they include the county in the decision process right now as Hythe enters dissolution, said Peterson.
