ICBC Dial-a-Claim calls spike amid snowy week

Dial-a-Claim calls to ICBC were way up after the South Coast saw a dump of snow earlier this week.

Surprise flurries on Monday bungled up the morning commute, causing problems for cars and buses alike. ICBC saw 84 per cent more calls than normal that day.

The corporation said Friday that most of the claims came from Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland — the regions that saw the most snow.

The number of calls for the week were as follows:

- Monday, Dec. 5 — 5,176.

- Tuesday, Dec. 6 — 4,248.

- Wednesday, Dec. 7 — 3,942.

- Thursday, Dec. 8 — 3,573.

- Friday, Dec. 9 — 386 (as of 10 a.m.).

Over the past year, the average number of calls per day was 2,811.

ICBC recommends that drivers who don't feel confident driving in snowy conditions take a taxi, carpool, use public transit or stay home if able.
