Identity of Freeburg man struck and killed on Illinois 13 has been released

The identity of the Freeburg man who was fatally struck by a vehicle after he stepped out onto the roadway in the 4900 block of Illinois 13 on Tuesday has been released.

Dale Blanford, 35, was struck by an oncoming vehicle, according to Illinois State Police. He was transported to Saint Louis University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. He was identified by Tara Rick of the St. Louis Medical Examiner’s office.

State Police Troop 8 responded to the single-vehicle fatal traffic crash at 10:29 p.m. The driver of the vehicle was a 31-year-old woman from Freeburg, according to police. She reported no injuries at the scene. Her identity has not been released.

The incident remains under investigation, state police said.
