Fake heiress Anna Delvey has thanked her fans for their support but warned them not visit her while she's in jail, saying: "I'm kind of busy".

"Hi guys, thanks for all the letters and words of support - I appreciate it," ‘Delvey’ wrote in an Instagram post on Monday.

"But please do not show up here to visit me unannounced...All you're achieving by coming here is wasting your time and interfering with my sleeping schedule".

She added: "I'm kind of busy, and showing up here at 8am on a Sunday morning/New Year's Day/any day is not the way!"

Delvey, whose real name is Anna Sorokin, is currently serving between four and 12 years in prison for defrauding a raft of New York businesses out hundreds of thousands of dollars.

She had posed as a German heiress to swindle banks, hotels and New York's social elite, telling them that her rich family would pay her debts.

Sorokin was jailed in 2019 but is reportedly expected out to get in February next year. US authorities are said to be planning deporting her to German upon her release.

Sorokin came to international attention in May 2018 when a New York magazine chronicled her elaborate web of scams and her story will be the subject of an upcoming Netflix documentary.

While in prison, Sorokin has posted to Instagram several times, once in response to a New York Post story claiming she was being granted parole next year.

On that occasion, she shared a clip from the movie Legally Blonde, where the protagonist Elle Woods - played by Reese Witherspoon - celebrates her admission to Harvard.
