I'm Mind Blown by This Makeup Artist's "WAP"-Inspired Beauty Look, and So Was Cardi B

The litany of mesmerizing of makeup, hair, and nail looks from Cardi B's new "WAP" music video featuring Megan Thee Stallion are inspiring beauty creators everywhere — and the rapper is officially taking note. Enter Zay Beckford: a makeup artist and YouTuber whose "WAP"-inspired beauty look compelled Cardi B herself to tweet about it.

When I first came across Beckford's creation — an epic mash-up of looks from the video with her own spin on it — I needed to know more about how it all came together. And luckily, she was down to share some details.

"I've always been obsessed with '90s style, especially when it comes to beauty, [and] I loved seeing Cardi B and Megan bring back that old school style in a new fun way," she tells me via email. In regards to execution, Beckford says she took care of the makeup, but enlisted the help of two talented Black artists in her city of Toronto — @hairgalleryintl and @rondasplace on Instagram — for hair and nails.

"It was definitely a team effort and we worked really hard to get it done, so we were all so happy when Cardi B shared the look on Twitter," she says. That's right, folks: The "Bodak Yellow" singer gave the beauty look her stamp of approval in a retweet that reads," I love," and it's since received more than 10,000 likes.

Considering how much thought and work were put into Beckford's "WAP" beauty beat, it's amazing to see her getting the recognition she deserves. Speaking of which, since sharing the look earlier in the week, her Instagram followers have left comments like, "PERFECT!!! Y'all killed it!," "THIS IS TOO LITTTT🔥🔥," and "Waiting for you to drop a verse now!! 😍😍😍 this is hot 🥵 ."

In addition to photos of the finished look, Beckford also posted a transformation video in which she showcases how to do the makeup step by step. If you're in the mood to be mind blown, I highly recommend watching the full tutorial. While you're at it, be sure to throw Beckford a follow on Instagram to support her incredible work.
