Impaired driving charge laid against Gatineau police officer

A Gatineau police officer has been charged with impaired driving after police say he was found asleep at the wheel of a car last December.

Christian Cousineau is charged with driving while impaired and having control of motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level above 80 miligrams per 100 millilitres of blood.

Police were called to Maloney Boulevard West near the intersection with Montée Paiement early on the morning of Dec. 4, 2016 after someone called 911 about a man passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle.

His fellow officers arrested Cousineau, who was off-duty at the time, and took him to a Sûreté du Québec station for testing.

He was released on a promise to appear in court and has been on administrative duty since. His driver's licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was seized.
