NORTH HURON – The Independent Canada Riders Club (the Independents) held fundraising events this summer and collected a total of $5,000, which they have generously donated to assist with breakfast clubs at five different schools.

The motorcycle club began handing out the donations on Sept. 29, starting with Sacred Heart Catholic School in Wingham, each school receiving $1,000.

Maitland River Elementary School in Wingham, E’Cole Port Elgin Saugeen Central School, Paisley Central School, and Hill Crest Central School in Teeswater will receive $1,000 towards their breakfast clubs.

The club included a donation letter to the schools, acknowledging local Wingham merchants who donated raffle prizes for the fundraiser.

Royal T Convenience, Hodgins Rona, McKee Tattooing, Red Apple, House of Bloom, Stainton Home Hardware, Frosty Queen, Steffen’s Auto Parts, and Ideal Supply all made generous donations, according to the club.

“The long list of merchants from all of the school’s area’s have been more than generous, we do thank them all,” the donation letter said.

“We have to thank all the supports that attend our fundraisers and donate to our club, if it wasn’t for your generosity and continued support, we could not do what we do.”

The letter ended with, “Thank you for helping us to help kids.”

The club, formed 21 years ago in the area, has raised funds for 12 years for local schools.

The first year they raised $500, according to “Gypsy,” one of the group’s members, and they were able to donate to one school’s program.

The club is very grateful for the ongoing support and looks forward to continuing the fundraising efforts.
