Though vehicle thefts have been down year-over-year in some jurisdictions in Canada, it's still a risk for the unwary in the winter season.

But if it does happen to you, the most anxious question you might have is: will my insurance cover it?

Weather Network reporter Rachel Schoutsen spoke to Greg Monforton, a civil trial lawyer based in Windsor, Ont., who says someone whose vehicle is stolen while the keys have been left in the ignition should still be covered under their policy in most cases, though it's best for drivers to understand their policy to know what you're covered for in case of pushback from your insurer.
