Introducing FluroTech (CVE:TEST), The Stock That Slid 65% In The Last Year

The nature of investing is that you win some, and you lose some. Anyone who held FluroTech Ltd. (CVE:TEST) over the last year knows what a loser feels like. The share price has slid 65% in that time. FluroTech hasn't been listed for long, so although we're wary of recent listings that perform poorly, it may still prove itself with time. Shareholders have had an even rougher run lately, with the share price down 46% in the last 90 days.

With just CA$116,548 worth of revenue in twelve months, we don't think the market considers FluroTech to have proven its business plan. We can't help wondering why it's publicly listed so early in its journey. Are venture capitalists not interested? So it seems that the investors focused more on what could be, than paying attention to the current revenues (or lack thereof). Investors will be hoping that FluroTech can make progress and gain better traction for the business, before it runs low on cash.

Companies that lack both meaningful revenue and profits are usually considered high risk. You should be aware that there is always a chance that this sort of company will need to issue more shares to raise money to continue pursuing its business plan. While some such companies do very well over the long term, others become hyped up by promoters before eventually falling back down to earth, and going bankrupt (or being recapitalized). FluroTech has already given some investors a taste of the bitter losses that high risk investing can cause.

FluroTech had cash in excess of all liabilities of just CA$3.1m when it last reported (September 2019). So if it hasn't remedied the situation already, it will almost certainly have to raise more capital soon. That probably explains why the share price is down 65% in the last year . It can be extremely risky to invest in a company that doesn't even have revenue. There's no way to know its value easily. What if insiders are ditching the stock hand over fist? It would bother me, that's for sure. You can click here to see if there are insiders selling.

A Different Perspective

While FluroTech shareholders are down 65% for the year, the market itself is up 14%. However, keep in mind that even the best stocks will sometimes underperform the market over a twelve month period. The share price decline has continued throughout the most recent three months, down 46%, suggesting an absence of enthusiasm from investors. Basically, most investors should be wary of buying into a poor-performing stock, unless the business itself has clearly improved. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too.
