RCMP in Iqaluit say they've arrested one man following a bomb threat at the Northmart store.
All customers and staff were evacuated from the grocery and department store Friday afternoon. Police blocked off a stretch of Queen Elizabeth Drive around 4:30 p.m. ET.
In an update Friday evening, RCMP say the threat has been cleared, and they determined it was a hoax.
A 32-year-old man from Iqaluit was arrested in connection to the incident, and he is in custody pending the investigation, states the updated news release.
No charges have been laid at this time, say RCMP.
An earlier news release stated the store will be closed for the rest of the day.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jamie Savikataaq told CBC News the building is now safe, and it's up to Northmart to decide whether to reopen on Friday.
