Jake Gardiner signs 5-year, $20.25M deal with Leafs: reports

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenceman Jake Gardiner to a five-year, $20.25-million US contract extension, according to several media reports.

Gardiner will make an annual salary of $4.05 million.

Gardiner's extension doesn't include any no-movement protection, according to Sportsnet.ca.

In 80 games with the Leafs last season, the 24-year-old defenceman scored 10 goals and added 11 assists.

Teammate Nazem Kadri was quick to offer his take of Gardiner's newfound wealth.

Gardiner, drafted 17th overall by Anaheim in 2008, made his NHL debut with Toronto in 2011.

The six-foot-two, 184-pounder has 17 goals and 48 assists in 167 games.
