Jarrod Bowen ‘excited’ at facing former club Hull but hopes West Ham can enjoy ‘good cup run'
West Ham are aiming to go deep in the EFL Cup this season, with Jarrod Bowen hoping to knock out a team he still has plenty of positive feelings for.
The 23-year-old left Hull City for the Hammers in January and has started both his new club’s games this season so far.
He could again be involved as West Ham host the Tigers in the third round on Tuesday night and, despite acknowledging he holds the club in high regard, is hoping they “do well in future” - but that his current side prosper in this meeting.
“I’m proper excited that we’ve drawn Hull City in the next round and it will be good to see a lot of faces before and after the game, but for the 90 minutes it will be business as usual,” he told the West Ham club website.
“For me personally, it will be great to play against them and to see everyone but, like I said, I’m a West Ham player now and I’ve got to do everything I can to help us get into the next round.”
Bowen was a regular goalscorer in the Championship, netting 16 in 29 games for Hull during the first half of 2019/20.
He then left for the London Stadium at the end of January, but has scored just once in the top flight since then, against Southampton in February.
The domestic cups represent a chance for further games and goals, as well as the prospect of silverware down the line - and West Ham are hoping to go deep in the competition this year.
“We want to progress into the next round. We’re only a couple of wins off reaching the quarter-finals and we want to have a good cup run.”
The Hammers saw off Charlton in the second round, while Hull beat Leeds on penalties.
