Watch: Jason Momoa shaves head to raise awareness of plastic in the ocean
Jason Momoa has shaved off his iconic long hair to raise awareness to the environmental damage caused by single-use plastic.
The Aquaman star unveiled his new look on Instagram and then explained to his fans why he committed to the change.
In the video, Momoa said: "Shaving off the hair, doing it for single-use plastics – I’m tired of these plastic bottles, we’ve got to stop.
"Plastic forks, all that s***."
The actor added: "It goes into our land, goes into our ocean. I’m just seeing some things in our ocean that are so sad, so please, anything you do to eliminate single-use plastics in your lives – help me."
Momoa also reserved ire in particular for plastic bottles, saying: "Plastic bottles are ridiculous. Now [a lot of people] are making the aluminium, which is fantastic."
The Dune star also wrote in the caption of the post: "Be better at protecting our land and oceans. We need to cut single use plastics out of our lives and out of our seas.
"Plastic bottles, plastic bags, packaging, utensils all of it."
Momoa's long locks have often been a signature part of his roles in particular Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones and as Aquaman.
The Hawaii born actor has a number of upcoming roles including Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Netflix's Slumberland.
Momoa has also joined the Fast and Furious franchise for the series' tenth installment – Fast X.
He is set to play an as yet unnamed villain with the series also adding Rita Moreno, Alan Ritchson and Oscar winner Brie Larson to its ensemble cast.
Returning from previous Fast and Furious installments are mainstays Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Sung Kang and Nathalie Emmanuel.
