A man faces a decade behind bars after he allegedly waterboarded his girlfriend in an attempt to find out if she was cheating on him.

Dylan VanCamp is said to have used the method of torture - that simulates the feeling of drowning - alongside other violently abusive acts.

The 22-year-old, from Wisconsin, had been dating the unnamed woman for one month when he subjected her to several attacks.

His victim told police that VanCamp waterboarded her when he saw she had been chatting to a man she had known for some time on social media.

He allegedly punched her in the face before later dragging her from a shower by her hair and covering her face with a cloth and pouring water on it.

She claims that he left her eyes uncovered so that she could see what he was doing.

A police report stated: “VanCamp dumped about three cups of water, trying to get her to admit that she was cheating with the guy she had been on the computer with.

“[She] stated that she could not breathe and it felt like she was drowning.”

VanCampfaces six charges including suffocation, stalking and battery.

He is also accused of throwing a fork at his victim and attacking her on two other occasions, including once where she fell unconscious.

He faces 10 years in prison and an £18,000 fine if convicted.
