Jennie’s influence on fashion can’t be denied. It’s a force that has sold out clothing items, inspired countless social media accounts dedicated solely to her wardrobe, and prompted her fans to dub the sartorial superpower as “the Jennie effect.”
Her classic and preppy approach to fashion has also caught the attention of some of the biggest fashion houses in the world. The South Korean singer has walked the runway for Jacquemus, starred in campaigns for Maison Kitsuné and Adidas, and scored ambassadorships for storied brands including Calvin Klein and Chanel. In particular, Jennie has a special soft spot for Chanel; she started working with the house prior to Karl Lagerfeld’s 2019 death. “Just the fact that I got to talk to him, to have him see me wearing what he made—all of that was enough,” she said in Harper's Bazaar’s 2024 October cover story. “I am still very honored.”
As for where else she draws fashion inspiration, Jennie looks to her own mom. “She was Carrie from Sex and the City for me,” Jennie told Bazaar. She fondly recalled rummaging through her mom's closet to discover treasured vintage goodies. “When I’m at the airport … I call my mom. ‘Mom, I need a knee-length black coat. If it’s Burberry, I’ll like it, but if not, that’s cool.’ She’ll bring me a perfect [outfit] from when she wore it like 30 years ago.”
