Jennifer Aniston Staged a Friends Reunion at the 2020 Emmys—And Fans Are Freaking Out

Jennifer Aniston was kind of dominating the Emmys…well, actually Schitt’s Creek and Watchmen swept most of the awards, but you know what I mean.

After literally putting out a fire on the stage set by host Jimmy Kimmel, she was able to “make it home” in time for her category. Although she lost out to Zendaya for outstanding actress in a drama series, Aniston was still able to nab another showstopping moment. During a video chat with Kimmell, Aniston staged a Friends reunion with Courteney Cox. “We live together,” Cox joked.

“We’ve been roommates since 1994, Jimmy,” Aniston added. (We see what you did there.)

But they weren’t alone. Next came Lisa Kudrow, asking, “Is this live TV?” I mean, where else would she live? Needless to say, the internet freaked out. “I am but a simple woman, I see a #Friends reunion and I get excited,” one user wrote.

“If ABC gets a Friends reunion before HBO Max, heads are gonna roll,” Twitter user Dave Itzkoff wrote. Well…looks like heads are gonna roll.

The long-awaited Friends reunion special was supposed to hit HBO Max this summer, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it has been put on hold indefinitely. On August 7, Jennifer Aniston confirmed production was pushed back even further than originally planned. She told Deadline the delay is “very sad” but promised fans it’ll “be even more exciting and more fun” when it does happen.

“Unfortunately it’s very sad that we had to move it again,” she said. “It was, ‘How do we do this with live audiences?’ This is not a safe time. Period. That’s the bottom line. It’s not a safe time to do it.”

However, Aniston is looking at the bright side and staying optimistic. “It’s going to be super,” she said. “I choose to see it as the glass is half full that it got postponed. Look, we’re not going anywhere. You’re never going to get rid of Friends, sorry. You’re stuck with us for life, guys.”

At least we had tonight.
